Description:Francis Burdett of Foremark was one of the six members of the Markeaton Hunt that Wright painted in 1762-1763 (see BN, cat.27, p.185, plate 38). This study may have been produced in preparation for for the three-quarter length portriat that Wright made of Burdett for this group. If so, he changed the dress of his sitter to match that of the rest of his hunt partners; that is, a white neckcloth, lapelled waistcoat, and coat with collar.
