About this website
This website and its content are published by Derby Museums, with funding from a digital project grant from the Paul Mellon Centre. This includes new, high-quality images of all the items within the museums’ Joseph Wright Collection to provide, for the first time in the museums’ history, full and unparalleled access to this remarkable public treasure.
Many of the objects in this collection are in the public domain. This means that copyright is no longer applicable. This website, and the data within it, is presented under a CC BY license. This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use.
Individual object records will be updated and enhanced gradually as new research becomes available. Much of this work is being carried out by Derby Museums’ staff team alongside a small band of dedicated volunteers. However, we also acknowledge the work of numerous scholars, past and present, whose work on Wright has enhanced our understanding of the artist and his work, as well as specific works within the collection. As a small and busy team, we welcome contributions and feedback from the wider community and encourage you to contact us if you can share any new information, or if you notice any errors or omissions in this catalogue.
