Drawing of a male figure, standing, with his hands clasped. It is a study of an unidentified ancient sculpture or cast. The figure wears a beard and moustache. His dress consists of layered garments tied at the waist. His right hand clasps his left before him. Around his left arm is a sash, which runs from a round broach at his right shoulder, and down around his arm in the manner of a sling. Inscribed on recto, along pedestal edge (handwritten in ink): 'French Acady. 1st April 75-' and to upper right (handwritten in ink): '84'. An historic fold line runs across the drawing 65 mm up from the bottom edge of the sheet. Made by Joseph Wright of Derby (1734 - 1797), 1775. Pen and ink and brown wash, over pencil on laid paper. Displayed in a cream window mount.
