| Description: | First of two studies of this figure (see DBYMU 1914-517/29). [JW: 1997] Although the original Roman sculpture of 'Ganymede with the Eagle' was at the Villa Medici in Rome at the time of Wright's visit to Italy (it moved to The Uffizi in 1780), his study is based on a cast of the orignal sculpture at the French Academy in Rome. Wright made studies of the cast on 18 April 1774, before returning two days later to make a study of the head of Ganymede in profile (see DBYMU 1914-517/43). [LB: 2024] |
