Description:During his training under Hudson, Wright concentrated heavily on the delicate rendering of drapery. Many beautiful early drawings attest to the degree of skill he acquired in this aspect of draughtsmanship. Here too, Wright apparently delighted in the rendering of the complex folds of drapery, skilfully suggesting the mass of the underlying figure purely through line. The Statue itself is in the Capitoline (Hellenistic). The identity of the figure is uncertain, despite 'Juno' inscription, it may be Persephone. [Baker, George in Wallis, J. 'Joseph Wright of Derby' (1997), p.93.]
