Medium: Black and white chalk on blue laid paper.

Object Type:Drawing
Dimensions:Support: 241 × 254 mm (9 1/2 × 10 in.)
Description:In his cataloguing notes for Leger Galleries, 1996, Lowell Libson suggested that this was a preparatory study for Wright's portrait of 'a gentleman in a grey coat' (private collection), c. 1758 - 1760. However, close inspection of that painting shows that the detail of the cuff folds differ from the painting (LB, 2022).
