| Description: | Study after Thomas Hudson's portrait of Jane Evelyn, nee Cust (1725-1791) (NT, Belton House, Lincolnshire). Identified by Leger Galleries during their early cataloguing of the work (1996). The portrait of Jane Cust was paid for in 1756 according to the NPG artist box card for this work. Appears to have been used by Wright as the basis for his portrait of a woman, possibly Elizabeth Pigot, c. 1760 (private collection? sold by John Moran Auctioneers, California, 10 March 2019, lot 144 (LB, 2022). |
