Study of a woman's arm, in Van Dyck dress, and part of her torso, with the edge of a feigned oval. She wears a slashed sleeve, decorated with a large bow and there is an outline of lace to her bodice front. Inscribed below the drawing, along the lower edge of the sheet, in ink: 'yellow Sattin Gown with purple Knots about the Sleeves. n: the front arm / is too long'. Made by Joseph Wright of Derby (1734 - 1797). Black and white chalk, with ink, on blue paper, in cream window mount.
