Study of a woman, called Jane Cust, head and torso only, her body facing forwards, her head inclined slightly to the left. Her face is lightly sketched, the majority of the focus of the drawing being on her elaborate dress. She wears a low cut bodice decorated with strings of pearls, her sleeves puffed at the shoulders and decorated with pearls. She wears a lace choker at her neck and a gauze drape about her shoulders. Her hair is dressed with strings of pearls. Brown staining to lower left. Made by Joseph Wright of Derby (1734 - 1797). Black and white chalk on blue paper, in cream window mount.
