Study of a woman, head and torso only, wearing a lace collar and shawl decorated with flowers, the latter attached to her hair and falling loose around her right shoulder and clasped to the front of her bodice. Her collar is clasped by a drop pearl; the same decorative detail embellishes the bottom of her sleeve. Her face is loosely sketched, the majority of focus being on the details of her dress. Inscribed to verso 'White sattin dress / gauze'. Made by Joseph Wright of Derby (1734 - 1797). Black and white chalk on blue paper, in cream window mount.
